About

This web-site is dedicated on presenting the work done by the Image, Sound & Cultural Representation Lab of the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, towards Virtual and Mixed Reality.

Projects

CUREP lab has already started a cooperation with VR First, a global program designed to enable creators, companies, and governments interested in exploring the power and potential of immersive technologies. VR First Labs and facilities are key locations for nurturing new talent in VR/AR development and converting ideas into business opportunities. Furthermore, VR First offers competition services to prepare companies for the challenges of tomorrow. VR First has already provided CUREP with an Oculus Rift, which was used in several lab projects.

Studying user engagement in VR enviroments

This project was developed by an MSc student in our lad, aiming towards studying the impact the VR enviroment and the use of real objects in virtual enviroments have on user engagement.

Inverse Kinematics - Virtual Reality

During this project our lab researchers used Inverse Kinematics along with the Vicon motion capture system, to animate a human model using user movement in real time.

Interaction Between Remote Users in Mixed Reality

Mixed - Reality (MR) worlds are created by fusing together real and virtual elements. Here we present SEaMlESS, a multiuser, long-distance room-scale MR world. SEaMlESS utilizes widespread 3D modelling techniques and object tracking technologies to enable free user movement by providing full-body motion control, accurate real object representation with in the virtual world, as well as interaction with real and virtual objects.

Represeting Real Objects in Virtual Enviroments

In this project, Photogrammetry along with 3D Scanning using a Kinect sensor allowed the representation of real objects into the virtual enviroment.

Flex Sensor Arduino Glove

This work focuses on creating a flex sensor enabled Arduino glove, to allow users to grasp real and virtual objects simultaneously.

Interactive Clay for Leap Motion

This project focuses towards creating an intractive clay for Leap Motion Controller.
